ADVANCE: Monthly Prayer Gathering
Friday, December 7
Friday, January 4
Friday, February 1
Friday, March 1
Friday, April 5
On the first Friday of each month we hold a gathering that is focused primarily on prayer. We rotate meeting in homes so we’re accessible around the city, so check the church calendar each month to confirm the location. Childcare is available upon request. Please request by the Monday before the prayer gathering so we have enough time to secure workers.
Why do another gathering?
We’ve made promises to each other through our covenant, namely that we’ll pray for each other and that we’ll contribute to the support of the ministry… and the spread of the gospel through all nations. Prayer is one of those commitments we’ve made to each other, but it’s also foundational to every other commitment we’ve made. The monthly prayer gathering—though not everyone will be able to come every time—is an opportunity to joyfully serve and support our local church, our ministry partners, and our international missionaries.
Why do you call it “ADVANCE”?
This language comes from the Apostle Paul’s request for prayer in 2 Thessalonians 3:1 in which he wants “the word of the Lord to speed ahead and to be honored” as it had been among the Thessalonians. That’s our desire, too. We want to see the good news of the gospel advance through the ministry of Trinity Church, through the work of our local ministry partners, and through the lives of our international missionaries. So, we ask God to make it so.
What does a typical gathering look like?
Generally people arrive around 6:50-7:00pm. Folks talk with each other for a few minutes over refreshments. Around 7:15 everyone gathers together and there’s often a song that sets our hearts and minds of the glory of the God to which we pray. Next, everyone receives a page that has specific prayer requests gathered from our elders and their families, our local ministry partners, and our international missionaries.
There are a myriad of ways we could spend our time, but for this gathering in particular we focus on how the gospel impacts each arena of ministry for which we pray. We work our way through the requests, some attendees praying out loud while others pray silently. Some attendees pray requests exactly as they’re printed on the page while others pray for requests unscripted. Our praying typically comes to a close at 8:15-8:30pm, though attendees are free to come and go as their schedule allows.
